How does strace distinguishes between syscall-exit-stop or syscall-enter-stop in ARM LINUX ?

I didn't find the piece of code in strace that distinguishes when using PTRACE_SYSCALL if the state is syscall-exit-stop or syscall-enter-stop in ARM LINUX .
If it is new kenel we can use PTRACE_GET_SYSCALL_INFO , but how does strace find that information out if it is older kernel?
