Yeah, plenty of crufty old code.  I had never bothered to clean up such
trivia in the old code, but might as well be more fastidious in new code.
If you want to clean up the existing code, that's certainly fine with me.
I don't think we really need to bother, but it won't take long if you feel
like it.
