problem with 4.4.90 on solaris8 in stream.c

I added a configure check for those members of the T_conn_res type.  I also
fixed a few other nits that came up when I tried a Solaris build.  I've
still done only the most trivial testing on Solaris, so please keep an eye
out for other problems.  You can get the updates from sourceforge CVS (and
run autoreconf), or I will make another test release fairly soon.
